Inlays and Onlays

An inlay or an onlay procedure, also known as a partial crown procedure, fix cavities that may be too large for a filling, but since the tooth is still healthy, not large enough to require a crown.

Inlays fill large cavities between the cusps, or top edges, or a tooth. An onlay extends over one or both of the cusps to help add support and chewing surface.

Your dentist will take an impression of your teeth, and the dental laboratory will customise the inlays and onlays. We will carefully match, as close as possible, the colour of your natural teeth.

As with a filling or most other restorative procedures, your dentist will numb the area before working on the tooth, so you are as comfortable as possible.

Then the dentist will clean out and disinfect the decayed portion of the cavity. Once this is done, the dentist fits the inlay or onlay.

Inlays and onlays can last up to 15 years with proper care.
